Blog – Having Your Own

March 9th, 2010 · No Comments · Other - Society & Culture

One man’s blog can be both fun and profitable. However you might be thinking “Why have a blog? Why not a website? Is the website any better than a blog or the other way round?” To address this question let’s do a comparison.

1. Expense

Any good website will cost you. Even if the designing is free, hosting is still going to cost you, at the very lowest, a yearly fee of $10 – $20 . A blog on the other hand can be completely free, including hosting.

2. Getting set up

A website takes time and specialized expertise to set up. A blog however, can be created quickly and easily. The procedure is a matter of filling in some information; and it’s meant for Internet newbies. One mans blog can easily be set up in about 30 minutes by someone with little or no Internet expertise, and be nonetheless every bit as fine as any first rate website.

A quality website can involve a month to create. But a half hour (or less) is all it takes to go “live” with a blog!

3. Monetization

You can make some good money with a website as a platform for any product or service you want to sell. A blog can do likewise, and equally well provided measures are taken to market it. Any one man’s blog will compare favorably with a website of comparable quality.

4. Aesthetics

Websites can have a great many cool effects like videos, audios, and animation. Your blog spot however might not have the capacity to display all of the same effects, though it has enough that it can be very appealing. Therefore one man’s blog spot might not be as “flashy”, but just as effective.

5. Maintaining and marketing

A blog can have fresh content added on an ongoing schedule. Therefore blogging will draw more visitors in comparison to a website assuming the same expenditure of effort. It’s simpler to add new content to a blog than to a website.

The blog is thus self-promoting itself, since whenever fresh content is posted there is new indexing with the search engines. Conversely promoting a website requires a lot of investment and effort to produce traffic.

It is not surprising then to find a website supported by blogs that have been created to focus traffic toward the website.

Blogging can also be very enjoyable as you can interact socially for free. Many who had started with personal websites eventually moved to blogging because it’s simple, cost nothing, and can be updated continuously.

Thus the question we should address is not “Why have a blog?” but “Why not have a blog?” The benefits being so numerous why would you not take advantage of an opportunity such as this one.
